When you need a tiler
Most people don’t go looking for a tiler until something forces the issue. A bathroom that’s tired, dated, or quietly leaking behind the wall. A new build where the tiling is the finish everyone sees and runs a hand over every day. A splashback waiting to go in behind a freshly fitted kitchen bench. Maybe a patio or a flight of steps that has to take everything Auckland weather throws at it without lifting or cracking. Sometimes it’s a repair: a drummy floor tile, a cracked grout line, a shower that never quite dries out.
Whatever brought you here, the job underneath is the same. Get the surface right. Waterproof what needs it. Set the tiles so they still look sharp in ten years, not ten months. That’s the part a good tiler quietly obsesses over, and it’s the first thing a cheap one skips to hit a number. We’d rather do it once and do it properly.

Bathrooms and showers
When a bathroom comes back to bare framing, we tile it up better than it started. Shower walls and floors, vanity surrounds, recessed niches, bath hobs, and all the fiddly cuts around tapware. Bathrooms are wet areas, so the waterproof membrane under the tile matters every bit as much as the tile on top, and we treat it that way. Falls set properly so water runs to the waste instead of pooling. Done right, your shower stays a shower, not a slow leak into the room next door.
Kitchens and splashbacks
Picture a new kitchen with the bench in, the cabinetry hung, and one bare wall behind it waiting on a splashback to pull the whole thing together. That’s our happy place. We do splashbacks, full tiled walls and kitchen floors, cut tight around power points and rangehoods, and match the grout to the look you’re after rather than whatever’s closest on the shelf. By that stage the joinery costs more than the tiles, so we keep it clean.
Floors, walls and feature tiling
Why does floor tiling go wrong so often? Almost always the substrate, not the tile. Living areas, hallways, laundries, hearths, stairs. Mosaic, subway, herringbone, or large-format slabs that show every millimetre of a dodgy base. We get the surface flat first, set everything level and square, and plan the layout so the cut tiles land where the eye won’t catch them. Consistent grout lines from one end of the run to the other.
Outdoor and exterior tiling
Most people don’t realise outdoor tiling lives or dies on what’s underneath it. Patios, entrance steps, landings, pool surrounds and decks cop sun, rain and the odd frost all year, then foot traffic when they’re wet. So we prep the substrate, fall it for drainage, choose slip-rated tiles that suit the spot, and seal and grout for the outdoors rather than for a dry indoor room. Cut that corner and you get lifting tiles and skating-rink steps inside two winters.

Short on time to trawl tile shops, or not sure what works where? We’ll bring samples from the main New Zealand suppliers to you, talk through what suits the space and the light, and supply the lot. Already fallen for a tile and bought it? We’ll lay what you’ve chosen just the same. Either way you get one crew accountable for the finished job, instead of a supply chain to chase when something’s wrong.
Surface prep and waterproofing
This is the part nobody photographs, and it’s the part we care about most. Surface preparation, screeding, self-levelling, crack isolation, and a certified waterproof membrane in every wet area. We’re certified membrane installers and we stick to products that carry a manufacturer warranty, not whatever’s left on the truck. Get this layer right and the tiling looks after itself for decades. Get it wrong and the best-looking tiles in Auckland still fail.

What to expect
Quote and plan
We come out, look at the space, talk through what you’re after, and put a clear written quote in your hands with a realistic timeline. No vague hand-waving, no nasty surprises halfway through.
Prep and waterproof
First the substrate gets made sound, screeded and levelled where it needs it. Then a certified waterproof membrane goes into any wet area and is left to cure. Nothing goes on top until the base is right.
Tile and grout
Tiles go on with the right adhesive for the surface, set out so the layout looks deliberate rather than leftover, then grouted with whatever suits the spot. Epoxy where it earns its keep.
Seal and sign-off
We seal where it’s needed, silicone the junctions, clean up after ourselves, and walk you through the finished job before the van leaves. You sign off happy, or we’re not finished.

Auckland is humid, our bathrooms work hard, and the leaky-building years taught the whole country what happens when water gets into a wall and just stays there. The Building Code’s internal-moisture rules, clause E3, exist for exactly that reason, and we treat them as the baseline rather than a box to tick. Screeds cured before anyone tiles on them. Tiling questions, answered
Do I need waterproofing when I tile a bathroom?
Yes, and it isn’t optional. Wet areas need a certified waterproof membrane under the tiles before any tiling starts, and under the Building Code that’s a requirement, not a nice-to-have. We install it as part of the job and let it cure, so the room is protected from the very first tile instead of relying on grout to keep water out. Grout won’t.
How soon can I use a newly tiled area?
Depends on the job. Grout usually takes light foot traffic after about a day, a full cure runs closer to a week, and a fresh screed wants roughly a week on its own before we’ll even tile on it. We’d sooner give it the time than rush it and watch it crack later. You’ll get the timeline up front.
Is epoxy grout worth it?
Often, yes. It’s tougher, more flexible and far more stain-resistant than standard cement grout, which makes it a smart call for showers, splashbacks and floors that cop a hammering. It takes more skill to lay cleanly, so we’ll steer you to it where it genuinely earns its keep and talk you out of it where it doesn’t.
Will outdoor tiles handle Auckland weather?
They will, if the prep and the products are right. We use slip-rated tiles outside, fall the surface for drainage, seal them, and grout with exterior-grade product that copes with damp and UV. The bit most people miss is the surface underneath, and that is exactly where we spend the time, because that’s what fails first.
Can you tile over existing tiles?
Sometimes. If the old tiles are sound, well bonded, and the floor can take the extra height, tiling over can save a messy strip-out. But the moment there’s movement, hollow spots or a waterproofing question mark, the honest call is to take it back and start clean. We’ll tell you which camp you’re in after a proper look, not over the phone.

Whichever suits you. We can bring samples and supply from the major New Zealand ranges, or lay tiles you’ve already picked out. No pressure either way. It’s your bathroom and your call.
